spring break

Sandhill Cranes

I took a short trip to Kearney, Nebraska with some friends over Morningside’s spring break to try to spot the migratory sandhill cranes! Though our sunrise and sunset river-based sighting attempts weren’t successful, we did manage to see several flocks grazing in fields during the day.

They’re wild animals and are fairly skittish, meaning I couldn’t get as close as I wanted. Furthermore, my camera is a great point-and-shoot but doesn’t have the power of a DSLR with a massive zoom lens… With those qualifications aside, here are some photos I did manage to capture:

Spring Break in Puerto Rico!

I’ll be visiting Puerto Rico with my friend and colleague Stacey Alex over spring break! As you might imagine, I’m excited to get to soak in the natural beauty of the island. Our planned outdoor itinerary includes kayaking on the Laguna Grande Nature Reserve’s bioluminescent bay, hiking in El Yunque National Forest, a variety of beach visits, and exploring the Rio Camuy Cave Park.

I’ll post some photos when I return!
